April 10

The first Breakout Speaking Room in the C1 Speaking Club starts on April 11th. Here’s everything you need to know about it, and how you can take part.

I’m thrilled to announce that next week we will be having our very first Breakout Speaking Room events!

1. Week 15 Icebreaker Event | Tuesday April 11nd @ 9:30am CET
2. Week 15 Icebreaker Event | Thursday April 13th @ 19:30 CET

If you would like to practise speaking with other like-minded learners of English, this is the perfect start!

Kristian, what’s an Icebreaker event?

Great question. It is an event where we split up into pairs or small groups, and topics are presented on the screen for you to discuss.
It’s a way to chat in English in a relaxed atmosphere, meet other community members, and have some fun at the same time.

What is the format of the session?

It will be around 30 minutes long. We will have 3 different rounds of ‘Icebreakers’, each 10 minutes long. In each one you will be automatically put into pairs or small groups, and you’ll answer ‘icebreaker’ questions.

Kristian, this sounds complicated/scary.

It’s not! It’s intended to be fun, and will be a low-stress environment to practise your English with other like-minded people. You don’t need to do any homework or preparation.

Kristian, I don’t feel comfortable speaking. Does everyone need to speak?

For this event, given that we are in pairs, the emphasis is on speaking. Everyone is a learner, there are no hard questions, and it’s intended to be fun. It’s a safe space for everyone.

Overall, “Breakout Speaking Rooms” are the perfect solution for anyone who’s looking for a speaking partner with a similar level of English, and I really hope you’ll be able to join us!

This all sounds great, I’d like to come.

Tremendous! You can join the C1 Speaking Club here and participate once you’re a member.
